The seized drugs on display

Two suspected illicit drug dealers have been arrested in Obosi, Idemili North Local Government Area of Anambra State, with drugs valued at about ₦6.2 million and ₦598,400 in cash recovered.
The suspects, identified as 47-year-old Nzube Onyedikachukwu, also known as “Onyeoma,” and 20-year-old Ugochukwu Azia, were arrested by operatives of the Rapid Response Squad, Awkuzu, during a raid on a suspected criminal hideout in the early hours of Tuesday.
According to a statement issued by the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, the operation followed intelligence on the activities of suspected drug dealers operating in the area.
Police said the substances recovered included suspected Cannabis sativa, methamphetamine and other illicit drugs. Some suspected criminal elements reportedly fled the location when the operatives arrived.
The suspects remain in police custody as investigators probe the source of the drugs, their alleged distribution network and the circumstances surrounding the recovered cash.
The operation comes shortly after CP Nnanna Oji Ama assumed office as the 36th Commissioner of Police in Anambra State.
The new CP, according to the statement, has directed sustained intelligence-led raids and targeted operations against criminal hideouts across the state, in line with the directive of the Inspector-General of Police, IGP Olatunji Rilwan Disu.
CP Oji Ama also appealed to residents, traditional rulers, community leaders and other stakeholders to provide the police with credible information on criminal activities and suspected hideouts.
