The Commandant of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) Enugu State Command, Dr. Elijah Etim Willie, has called for a stronger operational partnership between security agencies and local government authorities to bolster grassroots security and prevent crime.
Dr. Willie made the call during a courtesy visit to the Executive Chairman of Enugu South Local Government Area, Rt. Hon. (Dr.) Caleb Onyema Ani, where he commended the council chairman for his consistent cooperation and support for the Corps.
Highlighting the essence of the visit, the NSCDC Commandant emphasized that effective synergy between security agencies and local authorities remained critical to enhancing the Corps’ swift response to security challenges within communities.
He added that sustained peace and the protection of lives and property rely heavily on active collaboration among the government, traditional institutions, and local residents.
Dr. Willie further praised the Enugu State Government, under the leadership of Governor Peter Mbah, for its transformative efforts to strengthen the state’s security architecture.
He specifically cited the state’s ultra-modern Command and Control Centre which provides round-the-clock monitoring of urban streets, remote communities, and forest corridors as a game-changing initiative that empowers security agencies to detect, track, and neutralize criminal activities effectively.
In his response, the Executive Chairman of Enugu South Local Government Area, Dr. Caleb Ani, commended Dr. Willie and the officers of the NSCDC Command for their steadfast dedication and remarkable achievements since assuming office.
He particularly praised the Commandant’s drive to boost the Corps’ operational capacity, safeguard critical national infrastructure, and clamp down on illegal mining activities across the region.
Dr. Ani expressed confidence that the state’s enhanced security framework would significantly curb crime and insecurity, particularly within rural and grassroots communities.

Also speaking, the Chairman of the Awkunanaw Traditional Rulers Council, HRH Igwe Daniel Nnamani, extended his gratitude to the NSCDC Commandant and his team for their commitment to safeguarding lives and property.
He also commended Dr. Ani for fostering a strong working relationship with security agencies and continuously championing peacebuilding initiatives at the grassroots level.
Both leaderships reaffirmed their mutual commitment to deepening institutional cooperation to combat crime, protect local communities, and sustain lasting peace across Enugu South and Enugu State at large.
