SALAGA, Ghana — The Member of Parliament for Salaga South, Hajia Zuwera Ibrahimah, has inspected an ongoing electricity extension project at Sokpe in Kafaba Ward, aimed at connecting 11 communities in the constituency to the national electricity grid.
The project is part of efforts to achieve 100 per cent electricity coverage across Salaga South.
Ibrahimah said she submitted a list of 40 communities without electricity to the Ministry of Energy and Green Transition in June 2025, following which the ministry responded positively to the request.
The first phase covers Kakurinji, Sokpe 1 and 2, Awunakope 1 and 2, Addokope, Blackiepe, Adovokope, Blacky and Sikape.
During the inspection, the MP engaged officials of the contractor, PROMAN TECH AND ELECTRICAL LTD, and interacted with residents to assess the progress of work and identify challenges affecting the project.
The project has a six-month contract period, with the Project Engineer, Philip, assuring the MP of the contractor’s commitment to completing the work within the agreed timeframe.
Ibrahimah said discussions with the project team also identified the possible extension of a new 33kVA line from Jeje, noting that incorporating the intervention into the project contingency could help reduce persistent power fluctuations in the constituency.
She further pledged to work with the Ministry of Energy and Green Transition towards a long-term solution to the electricity challenges, including the establishment of a substation for the constituency.
The MP said reliable electricity was essential for education, healthcare, businesses and livelihoods, adding that she would continue to pursue interventions capable of improving access to dependable power across Salaga South.
Ibrahimah is the Member of Parliament for Salaga South in Ghana’s Savannah Region and a member of the Ninth Parliament.
