AWKA— Governor Chukwuma Soludo of Anambra has announced plans to develop a new industrial city and an accompanying aerotropolis as part of efforts to create a more organised industrial and economic environment in the state.
Soludo made the announcement during the inauguration of a hotel in Abagana, Njikoka Local Government Area.
The governor explained that the planned industrial city would provide a structured alternative to the haphazard development in which factories, residences, churches, filling stations and markets are located side by side without adequate planning.
He said the Anambra Mixed Industrial City (AMIC) covers about 5,000 to 6,000 hectares, adding that significant development of the airport and runway would commence in September.
According to him, efforts are already underway to clear the site and construct access roads, while a dedicated power substation has also been established to serve the industrial zone.
The governor said the project was designed to provide an organised environment for industrial activity and attract investment to the state.
He urged Ndi Anambra living outside the state to return home and invest, stressing that the state offered ample opportunities for investors.
“It is time to make Anambra greater,” Soludo said.
