ABUJA— Sen. Seriake Dickson, National Leader of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), has urged stakeholders and candidates of the party in Enugu State to sustain reconciliation meetings at the local level ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Dickson made the call in a post on his official Facebook page on Wednesday, following a meeting he hosted with Enugu State stakeholders and candidates.
He said his recommendation was also applicable to all NDC state chapters and stakeholders across the country.
“Yesterday, I hosted stakeholders and candidates from Enugu State, where I urged them to continue holding reconciliation meetings at the local level.
“This is my recommendation to all state chapters and stakeholders across the country,” he said.
Dickson said he had, for almost nine months, consistently engaged stakeholders, aspirants and candidates in resolving issues and building the party.
He said, contrary to what he described as propaganda, the emergence of the party’s candidates was guided by consultations with party leaders and stakeholders in the various states, with minimal interference from the national leadership.
“The meeting with the Enugu stakeholders went very well, and I commended all of them for their commitment.
“I urged them to consolidate on this progress, remain united, and work together for victory,” he said.
Dickson congratulated the winners of the party’s nomination contests and thanked those who participated but did not emerge as candidates for their understanding.
He commended them for putting the interest of the party and the overall common good above personal ambition.
“If it is not your turn today, it may be your turn tomorrow,” he said.
Dickson acknowledged that disappointment could be painful but urged party members to recognise that the strength and survival of the NDC depended on their ability to put the collective interest first.
“We need a strong and united NDC. We need the party to survive and thrive for everyone,” he said.
He said the ultimate objective was for the NDC to win all elections, stressing that this could only be achieved if members remained united.
“Ultimately, our goal is to win all elections, and we can only do so if we remain united,” he said.
Dickson urged the Enugu stakeholders to deepen their reconciliation meetings as the party prepares for full-scale campaigns.
“The time for anger and bickering is over,” he said, adding that a reconciliation committee had been established to address outstanding issues.
He said the national leadership was also available to engage with the stakeholders, urging members to focus on the broader objective of rescuing Nigeria from what he described as the “vise grip of the APC.”
