The Vice Chairman of Igbo-Eze South Local Government Area of Enugu State, Dame Chinwendu Ogbonna, has commended the Chirote Ogadimma Empowerment Foundation for its efforts to improve the lives of youths, adults and less privileged residents.
Ogbonna described the foundation, led by Chief Damian Chirote Odo, as a worthy partner in development, particularly through its empowerment initiatives in education, business and livelihood support.
In a statement issued on Tuesday in Enugu and made available to newsmen, she recalled that the foundation distributed N600 million in August as part of the second phase of its philanthropic programme.
She noted that the first phase, held in August 2024, involved the distribution of N200 million to less privileged people across the state.
According to Ogbonna, the foundation has also awarded scholarships to students in secondary and tertiary institutions, while providing buses, cars and tricycles to youths and adults to support their livelihoods. Cash grants were equally given to beneficiaries to establish various businesses.
“The Chirote Empowerment Foundation has done a lot to promote people’s welfare.
The foundation has given scholarships to students in both secondary and tertiary institutions, empowered many youths and adults with buses, cars, tricycles to generate means of livelihood, as well as distributed cash to others to embark on various business ventures,” Ogbonna said.
The council vice chairman observed that the interventions reflected the foundation’s belief that government could not provide all the needs of citizens alone, making private initiatives important complements to public programmes.
She described Odo as an accomplished philanthropist whose commitment to uplifting disadvantaged people and improving their living standards could not be underestimated.
Ogbonna called on other well-meaning citizens, particularly from Enugu North Senatorial District, to emulate the foundation’s humanitarian efforts and support the Enugu State Government under Governor Peter Mbah in its drive to further develop the state.
