The Executive Chairman of Enugu South Local Government Area, Rt. Hon. Dr. Caleb Onyema Ani, has thanked the people of the council area for renewing his mandate, pledging to make his second term more people-centred.
Ani expressed the appreciation in a statement issued after the results of the Enugu State Local Government election were announced, describing his re-election as a demonstration of the confidence and trust of the people in his leadership.
“I want to start by saying a very big thank you to Ndi Enugu South for coming out to exercise your civic responsibility and for choosing, once again, to place your trust in me,” he said.
“This victory is yours. You made it possible, and I do not take it for granted,” Ani added.
The chairman expressed special appreciation to Gov. Peter Ndubuisi Mbah for giving him the opportunity to serve the people of Enugu South, saying the governor’s vision and support had contributed significantly to the progress recorded in the council area in the past two years.
“To our amiable Governor, His Excellency Barr. Dr. Peter Ndubuisi Mbah, I remain deeply grateful for the platform and the confidence you have reposed in me,” he said.
“Your leadership continues to inspire our work at the grassroots, and I look forward to keying even further into your vision for a greater Enugu State,” Ani added.
He also thanked stakeholders in Enugu South, party faithful and the leadership of the All Progressives Congress (APC) at the state and local government levels for their mobilisation and support during the election.
Ani extended his appreciation to community leaders, traditional rulers and Presidents-General across the wards for their guidance and cooperation during his first term.
The chairman also acknowledged market leaders, members of the Hausa community and other non-indigenous residents for their contributions to peace, commerce and unity in the council area.
“This is a collective victory. From our market leaders to our traditional rulers, from the party faithful to our Hausa brothers and non-indigene residents who have made Enugu South their home, everyone has a stake in what we have built together and what we will continue to build,” he said.
On his plans for the second term, Ani said his administration would consolidate its achievements and deepen people-oriented governance, with greater emphasis on projects and policies that directly improve the lives of residents.
“This mandate is a call to do more, not less. In this second term, we will consolidate on the foundation we have laid and deepen our commitment to people-oriented governance,” he said.
“Every policy, every project, and every decision will be measured by one standard: does it improve the lives of our people?” Ani said.
He reaffirmed his commitment to servant leadership and sustainable development in Enugu South, saying the renewed mandate had strengthened his resolve to serve the people better.
“I remain, as I have always been, a servant of the people. This victory does not change that; if anything, it strengthens my resolve to serve you even better,” he said.
Ani also expressed special appreciation to Sen. Dr. Jim Nwobodo, former Governor of the old Anambra State, and his wife, Dr. Mrs. Patricia Nwobodo, for what he described as their fatherly and motherly roles in shaping his political ideals and worldview.
“I cannot forget to specially appreciate His Excellency, Dr. Jim Nwobodo, and his dear wife, Dr. Mrs. Patricia Nwobodo, for the fatherly role they have played in shaping my ideas and for so much more that words cannot fully capture,” he said.
“Their wisdom, guidance, and belief in me have contributed immensely to whoever I have become today, and I remain eternally grateful,” Ani added.
Ani’s re-election marks the beginning of his second term as Executive Chairman of Enugu South Local Government Area, pending his formal inauguration.
