Enugu 2027: Mbah, 15 Others Battle for Governorship Seat

Incumbent Gov. Peter Mbah of Enugu State and 15 other candidates are contending for the state Governorship position in the 2027 Governorship Election.

The candidates, who are also credible and popular, are drawn from various political parties seeking to unseat Mbah and control the state’s government house.

This is contained in the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) Final List of Governorship Candidates for Enugu State displayed on Sunday at Enugu State headquarters of INEC.

The document contains the personal credentials of all 16 candidates contesting the state’s top political position.

Gov. Mbah, contesting under the platform of the All Progressives Congress (APC), would battle it out with Chief Uchenna Nnaji of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and immediate past Minister of Science, Technology and Innovation.

Other cardinal political gladiators include: Chief Chinyeaka Ohaa of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) and Chief Obodoeze Ocho of the African Democratic Congress (ADC).

The final list also names Mr Edwin Alor of Accord; Prof. Jehu Nnaji of the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP); and Mr Okwudilichukwu Ugwu represents the Labour Party (LP) as poised to occupy the governorship seat.

Other major candidates are: Mr Nnamdi Ugwu of the Democratic Leadership Alliance (DLA); Mr Anthony Udeani of the Young Progressives Party (YPP) and Mr Afamefuna Ani of the Action Peoples Party (APP).

Mr Elvis Ugwoke of the Zenith Labour Party (ZLP); Mr Friday Iloka of the Social Democratic Party (SDP) and Mr Nnamdi Omeje of the Action Democratic Party (ADP) are also contesting.

The remaining candidates are Mr Ken Ikeh of the Allied Peoples Movement (APM); Chief Obioma Nnamani of the Because Of Our Tomorrow (BOOT) Party and Mr Ndubuisi Okonkwo of National Rescue Movement (NRM) completes the 16-candidate election.

Candidates have intensified statewide electioneering activities through engagements with stakeholders and elder statesmen ahead of the 2027 Governorship election.

Mbah is expected to campaign on his administration’s projects, programmes and social interventions as he seeks another term in office.

His administration is banking on what government sources described as “verifiable projects and social interventions impacting the people” as key strengths ahead of the election.

The contest is therefore shaping up as an unexpected crowded race, with Mbah facing formidable gladiators seeking to wrest control of Enugu State from the APC.
