President Bola Tinubu on Wednesday presided over a meeting of the Federal Executive Council at the State House, Abuja, his first FEC meeting since June 29.

The meeting began at the Council Chamber after the President arrived at about 2:30 p.m.

The council observed a minute of silence in honour of two former members who recently died, former Minister of Finance, Alhaji Abubakar Alhaji, and former Minister of Science and Technology, Professor Turner Isoun.

Alhaji, who died in July aged 85, served as Minister of Finance from 1990 to 1991, while Isoun, who died on July 15 aged 87, served as Minister of Science and Technology from 2000 to 2007.

The meeting was attended by the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Senator George Akume; Head of the Civil Service of the Federation, Dr Didi Walson-Jack; National Security Adviser, Mallam Nuhu Ribadu; and Chief of Staff to the President, Femi Gbajabiamila. Ministers, presidential aides and other senior government officials were also present.

The council’s deliberations are expected to focus on key government policies and national issues as the Federal Government continues to implement its economic, security and development agenda.

The meeting comes after a break of nearly two months since the previous FEC session on June 29.
