Salaga South MP Hands Over Site for New Classroom Block

SALAGA, Ghana — Member of Parliament for Salaga South Constituency in Ghana’s Savannah Region, Hajia Zuwera Ibrahimah, has handed over the site for the construction of a three-unit classroom block at Sakafatu Islamic Junior High School in the East Gonja Municipality.

The ceremony, held on Thursday in Salaga, was conducted jointly with the East Gonja Municipal Chief Executive, Hon. Kassim Yazid Rabiu, as part of efforts to improve educational infrastructure and provide a more conducive environment for teaching and learning.

The project is expected to be completed within five months.

Speaking at the ceremony, Ibrahimah said she had received several reports about the deteriorating condition of the school and subsequently worked with the Municipal Chief Executive to secure funding for the new facility.

She thanked opinion leaders, Islamic clerics, teachers and students for their patience and cooperation, saying the commencement of the project represented a positive outcome of their collective efforts.

The MP said the intervention formed part of the broader government’s vision of accelerating development and expanding opportunities for young people through investment in education.

She said further investments would be pursued to provide students across the municipality with the infrastructure and opportunities required to excel academically.

Ibrahimah urged the contractor to adhere strictly to the agreed five-month completion period and ensure that the classroom block was constructed according to the required standards.

She said timely completion would significantly improve the learning environment and support effective teaching at the school.

The MP’s emphasis on education is consistent with her wider constituency development agenda. Recent reports show that she has been involved in projects covering education, healthcare and other basic infrastructure across Salaga South.

The East Gonja Municipal Director of Education, Madam Abiba Bakari-Soale, commended the MP and the Municipal Chief Executive for their commitment to improving educational infrastructure.

Bakari-Soale described Ibrahimah as a listening leader passionate about education and the welfare of her constituents, recalling that the MP had previously assured her that the school would be reconstructed.

“True to her word, the school has now been awarded to a contractor for construction to commence,” she said.

Speaking on behalf of opinion leaders, Islamic clerics, teachers and students, Alhaji Baba Mustapha Jarah said Sakafatu Islamic School was one of the oldest schools in the municipality.

He said the community welcomed the development after the Municipal Chief Executive informed them that the MP would formally hand over the site for construction.

Jarah expressed appreciation to Ibrahimah and Rabiu for responding to concerns over the condition of the school and providing a new facility.

The ceremony also featured special prayers for President John Dramani Mahama, Hajia Zuwera Mohammed Ibrahimah and Kassim Yazid Rabiu, with prayers for Allah’s guidance, wisdom and protection as they continue to serve the people.

The event was attended by Islamic clerics from Ngua Mallam, National Democratic Congress constituency and branch executives, officials of the Municipal Education Directorate, staff of the East Gonja Municipal Assembly, teachers, students and community leaders.
