Accra — The 2026 Sponsoring Group of Mfantsipim School has called for concerted efforts to preserve, strengthen and advance the school’s legacy beyond its 150th anniversary.
K.B. Coleman, Chairman of the 2026 Mfantsipim Old Boys Association (MOBA) at 150, made the call while speaking at the Mfantsipim@150 Annual Engagement Series in Accra.
Coleman said sustaining Mfantsipim’s legacy beyond 150 years was both timely and necessary, adding that the anniversary provided an opportunity for stakeholders to reflect on the school’s achievements and consider practical ways to strengthen the institution for future generations.
He recalled that the theme of the school’s 2016 anniversary was “Meritocracy”, noting that the principle remained relevant as Mfantsipim looked towards the future.
According to him, discussions on the future of the school should focus on four key pillars, finance, technology, infrastructure, and leadership and values.
He explained that the areas were essential to building an institution that was financially sustainable, technologically relevant, adequately equipped and firmly grounded in its values, while remaining responsive to changing societal needs.
Coleman emphasised the importance of intergenerational responsibility, noting that members of the 2026 sponsoring group were beneficiaries of a legacy built by previous generations.
“We therefore have a responsibility to contribute to strengthening the school so that future generations will inherit an even stronger institution,” he said.
He described the engagement as more than a celebration of the past, saying it provided an opportunity for intergenerational dialogue, reflection and forward-looking thinking.
Coleman expressed the hope that the discussions would generate practical ideas and renew stakeholders’ commitment to the continued development of Mfantsipim, while strengthening the bond between the school and its old boys.
He also appreciated the distinguished panelists, MOBA leadership, the Mfantsipim Headmaster and school community, as well as other stakeholders whose support made the engagement possible.
As Mfantsipim marks 150 years of excellence, leadership and service, Coleman said the anniversary should remind stakeholders that preserving the school’s legacy was not merely about protecting what had been inherited, but also about taking responsibility for what they leave behind.
