Police Confirm Killing of Popular Awka MC, One Other

AWKA— The Anambra State Police Command has confirmed the killing of popular comedian and media personality, Isaac Nwosu, popularly known as “Aiza”, and another unidentified person in separate gun attacks in Awka, the state capital.

The command, in a statement issued on Monday by its Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), SP Tochukwu Ikenga, said the attacks occurred on Sunday, Aug. 30, 2026.

According to Ikenga, preliminary information indicated that three unidentified persons travelling in a silver-coloured Toyota Corolla, whose registration number was yet to be ascertained, allegedly shot two persons at separate locations within Awka.

He said police operatives, upon receiving distress information, immediately mobilised patrol teams to the affected areas and commenced efforts to track down the assailants.

Ikenga said the bodies of the victims were recovered along Capital City Road, Amaenyi, and S.M. Okeke Street, Amaikwo, Awka, respectively.

He said the victims were taken to a hospital, where medical personnel subsequently confirmed them dead.

The PPRO said one of the victims was yet to be identified, while the second was identified as Nwosu, a male popularly known as “Aiza”.

The police also recovered ₦7,550, one Moniepoint ATM card and a pair of slippers from the scenes, Ikenga said.

The Commissioner of Police in Anambra, CP Nnanna Oji Ama, condemned the killings and described them as unacceptable and a direct affront to the peace and security of the state.

Ama consequently directed that the case be transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID), Awka, for discreet and comprehensive investigation.

The Commissioner also directed the intensification of patrols, surveillance and intelligence gathering across Awka and adjoining areas as efforts continue to apprehend the perpetrators.

Ikenga said the command was calling on community leaders, residents, motorists, business owners and other members of the public who witnessed the incidents or had credible information about the suspects, their movements or the vehicle used in the attacks to assist the police.

“Such information will be treated with utmost confidentiality,” he said.

The PPRO reiterated that community partnership remained critical to effective policing and urged residents to provide timely information that could assist in apprehending the perpetrators and preventing further attacks.

The command, he said, had intensified the manhunt for the suspects and remained committed to bringing those responsible to justice.

Nwosu was a familiar figure in Awka’s entertainment and media circles, where he was known for his work as a comedian, master of ceremonies and public announcer.

His death has generated widespread reactions among residents and colleagues.
