NYSC, BPP Strengthen Procurement Capacity, Youth Development

ABUJA — The National Youth Service Corps, NYSC, has commended the Bureau of Public Procurement, BPP, for supporting capacity building for the Scheme’s procurement officers.

The NYSC Director-General, Brigadier General Olakunle Nafiu, gave the commendation when he paid a courtesy visit to the BPP Director-General, Dr Adebowale Adedokun, at his office.

Nafiu said the training would strengthen the knowledge and skills of NYSC procurement officers and keep them abreast of current policies, regulations and best practices. He assured that the Scheme would continue to comply strictly with statutory procurement regulations.

The NYSC Director-General also appreciated the BPP for its welfare and capacity-building initiatives for Corps Members serving at the Bureau, saying the exposure would equip them with useful skills for their future careers.

“We want to thank you for your support for the National Youth Service Corps and for understanding our peculiarities. This has made our jobs very easy.

“We also thank you for taking very good care of our Corps Members,” he said.

Nafiu welcomed a proposal by the BPP Director-General to deliver public procurement awareness lectures to Corps Members during the Orientation Course, describing the initiative as a step in the right direction.

He said exposing Corps Members to procurement knowledge and opportunities would provide practical skills that could benefit them in their future endeavours, particularly in the public service.

Responding, Adedokun commended Nafiu for prioritising staff capacity building and introducing initiatives aimed at repositioning the NYSC.

He applauded the digitalisation of NYSC operations and the seamless deployment of large numbers of Corps Members across the country.

The BPP Director-General also commended the Scheme for promoting national integration through the cross-cultural exposure of Corps Members, saying the policy had contributed to stronger social bonds and inter-tribal marriages among Nigerians.

“We are totally in alignment with NYSC peculiarities. We will support you in how procurement is being carried out. I want to encourage you not to relent in repositioning and strengthening the Scheme,” he said.
