Anambra Govt Demands Justice in Alleged Child Sexual Exploitation Case

AWKA— The Anambra State Government has condemned the alleged sexual exploitation of children in Onitsha and called for justice for the victims.

The Commissioner for Women and Social Welfare, Mrs. Esther Chinyere Onyekesi, made the call in a statement on the alleged child pornography case involving 36-year-old Anulika Onyeanusia.

Onyekesi described the alleged exploitation of children for pornographic content as reprehensible and a serious violation of their rights and dignity.

She commended the Anambra State Police Command and the Ministry of Women and Social Welfare for their swift intervention, saying the government would ensure that those responsible faced the law.

The commissioner said the government would provide the affected children with the necessary care and support to help them recover from the alleged abuse.

The Anambra State Police Command said Onyeanusia was arrested on Thursday, Sept. 10, following open-source intelligence concerning a disturbing video allegedly showing a woman using sex toys on a minor.

Police spokesman, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, said the operation also led to the rescue of four children aged two, three, six and nine, while sex toys and other items relevant to the investigation were recovered.

Ikenga said the suspect remained in police custody while investigators worked to establish the circumstances surrounding the alleged offence and determine whether other persons were involved. Her husband was also being questioned over possible involvement.

Onyekesi reaffirmed the state government’s zero-tolerance position on child abuse and exploitation, assuring that the welfare and protection of children remained a priority.

She urged members of the public with information on suspected cases of child abuse or exploitation to promptly report them to the appropriate authorities.

The police said investigation into the case was ongoing and that the identities and privacy of the rescued children would be protected.
