Otti Congratulates Mbah on Honorary Doctorate from University of East London

UMUAHIA — The Abia State Governor, Dr Alex C. Otti, has congratulated his Enugu State counterpart, Dr Peter Mbah, on the conferment of a Doctor of Law Degree, honoris causa, by the University of East London, United Kingdom.

Otti, in a congratulatory message issued by his Chief Press Secretary, Mr Ukoha Njoku Ukoha, described the honour as a well-deserved recognition of Mbah’s leadership, commitment to public service and contributions to the development of Enugu State.

The University of East London conferred the honorary degree on Mbah during its graduation ceremony at the institution’s Docklands Campus in London.

In its citation, the university highlighted his academic and leadership achievements, including his service as President of the Students’ Law Society, as well as his subsequent career in law, entrepreneurship and public administration.

Otti said the honour was a testament to the impact of Mbah’s administration in Enugu State, particularly his investment in education.

He quoted the university as commending Mbah’s philosophy that “education is fundamentally the cornerstone of human progress, the bedrock upon which the future stands,” a position the institution said strongly resonated with its values.

“Your Excellency, this honour from the University of East London is a testament to the impact of your administration in Enugu State,” Otti said.

He added that leaders in the South-East shared a common vision of rebuilding the region and making it a hub of commerce, industry and innovation in Nigeria, describing Mbah’s commitment to good governance as encouraging.

The Abia governor further expressed confidence that the honour would spur Mbah to greater service to Enugu State and Nigeria, while praying for him to receive continued wisdom and strength in the discharge of his responsibilities as governor.

Mbah, an alumnus of the University of East London, graduated with a Bachelor of Laws degree from the institution in 2000 before proceeding to the Nigerian Law School, where he was called to the Nigerian Bar.

The university also cited his later academic pursuits and career as a lawyer, entrepreneur and public servant in conferring the honorary degree.
