The Minister for Lands and Natural Resources, Emmanuel Armah-Kofi Buah, has handed over the Environment, Science and Technology portfolio to newly appointed Minister, Dr Zanetor Agyeman-Rawlings.
The transition follows Dr Agyeman-Rawlings’ approval by Parliament and her subsequent swearing-in by President John Dramani Mahama at the Jubilee House in Accra.
President Mahama, at the swearing-in ceremony, tasked the new minister with strengthening environmental protection, particularly the fight against illegal mining, while promoting scientific research and technological innovation.
He also urged her to deepen collaboration among universities, research institutions, industry and government, stressing that science, technology and innovation must play a central role in Ghana’s national development.
Dr Agyeman-Rawlings, the Member of Parliament for Klottey-Korle, now assumes political leadership of the ministry, with responsibility for advancing environmental sustainability, scientific development, technology and innovation.
The transition comes as the ministry continues efforts to address environmental degradation while using science and technology to support sustainable economic development and improve public wellbeing.
