Dr Maxwell Menkiti Ngene has been appointed the new Head of the Department of Mass Communication, Enugu State University of Science and Technology, ESUT, Agbani, with effect from Sept. 1, 2026.
Ngene, a Senior Lecturer and the department’s Postgraduate Programmes Coordinator, takes over from Associate Prof. Chidiebere Anthony Ezinwa, who has headed the department since August 2023.
A statement by the department said Ngene is a product of ESUT’s Mass Communication Department, where he obtained his bachelor’s, master’s and doctoral degrees in the discipline.
It said he had over three decades of experience in teaching, research and communication practice, having supervised undergraduate and postgraduate students and served as Course Adviser to second-year students.
The statement added that Ngene was a veteran broadcaster who worked with ATV/ABS/ESBS Enugu and a public affairs analyst with the Guild of Public Affairs Analysts of Nigeria, GPAAN, Enugu State Chapter.
It said he had also served as a Senior Legislative Aide in the National Assembly and Executive Assistant to a former Enugu State governor.
According to the statement, Ngene has worked for more than 30 years as a Communication for Development and Social and Behaviour Change consultant with UNICEF, contributing to community engagement initiatives in Enugu, Benue, Imo and Cross River states.
The department commended Ezinwa for his leadership and contributions during his tenure and expressed confidence in Ngene’s ability to build on the department’s achievements.
