Governor Peter Mbah stands at the centre of a bold vision to redefine Enugu State’s development trajectory and secure a more prosperous future for its people.
His administration’s drive to expand infrastructure, modernise education and healthcare, strengthen security, improve transportation and stimulate economic growth reflects an ambition to transform Enugu’s vast potential into tangible progress. It is this vision, and the determination to translate it into reality, that has inspired the description of Mbah as the redeemer of Enugu of today and tomorrow.
Since assuming office in May 2023, Mbah has pursued an ambitious development agenda aimed at addressing longstanding needs while preparing the state for emerging opportunities. From road construction and the development of the New Enugu City to the Smart Green Schools initiative, healthcare investments and technology-driven security, his administration is seeking to build the foundations of a modern, competitive and economically vibrant Enugu.
The case for describing Mbah as the redeemer of Enugu of today and tomorrow rests on the scale and range of projects his administration has initiated, the public infrastructure it is delivering and its ambition to reposition the state for long-term growth. These efforts are reflected in several key sectors, with infrastructure providing one of the clearest indicators of the administration’s development drive.
In September 2026, the Enugu State Government reported that the administration had constructed or reconstructed more than 1,521 kilometres of roads. Projects such as the Owo–Ikem dual carriageway and the Amaechi–Idodo–Amagunze Road illustrate the drive to improve connectivity between communities.
These investments are important because better roads can reduce travel difficulties, improve access to markets and essential services, and make it easier for businesses to transport goods. Beyond facilitating movement, improved road networks can also open up communities to investment and create opportunities for economic activity.
Alongside these road projects, the development of the New Enugu City adds a longer-term dimension to the administration’s infrastructure agenda. Planned urban expansion can attract investment and create new commercial opportunities when supported by reliable infrastructure, effective planning and sustainable services.
Beyond physical infrastructure, the administration has also placed emphasis on education as a foundation for sustainable development. The Smart Green Schools initiative is intended to modernise learning environments and better prepare children for a technology-driven economy.
The government also allocated approximately one-third of its 2026 budget to education, underscoring the priority it attaches to the sector. Together, these initiatives reflect an effort to prepare the next generation with the knowledge and skills needed to contribute to Enugu’s future development.
Healthcare is another critical component of this development agenda. The administration has established 260 Type-2 Primary Healthcare Centres and pursued improvements at Parklane Hospital and the Enugu International Hospital. These investments are significant because accessible primary healthcare can bring essential services closer to communities, while improved hospital facilities can strengthen the capacity to treat more complex medical conditions.
Equally important to the state’s development is the need to create a safe and accessible environment for residents, businesses and investors. In this regard, the administration’s technology-driven security programme includes a Command and Control Centre and surveillance-enabled patrol operations designed to strengthen security monitoring and improve responses to incidents.
Transportation initiatives complement these efforts. Enugu Air and modern transport terminals represent attempts to strengthen connectivity, facilitate movement and support commercial activities. Together with improved road infrastructure and security initiatives, they form part of a broader effort to make Enugu more accessible and attractive for business and investment.
However, sustainable development requires more than roads, schools, hospitals and transport facilities. It also depends on a productive economy capable of creating jobs, supporting businesses and improving living standards. The administration’s broader economic ambitions therefore include reviving public assets, promoting agriculture, encouraging industrial development and attracting private investment.
These priorities are particularly important for young people seeking employment and entrepreneurs looking for opportunities to grow their businesses.
The breadth of this development programme is reflected in the Enugu State Government’s September 2026 achievement report, which cited more than 1,521 kilometres of roads, over 7,000 classrooms and 260 Type-2 Primary Healthcare Centres among the administration’s milestones. These figures illustrate the scope of the government’s reported activities across critical sectors.
Why, then, is Governor Mbah regarded as the redeemer of Enugu? The argument rests on his administration’s pursuit of several interconnected priorities roads that connect communities, schools intended to improve learning, healthcare facilities designed to expand access, security infrastructure aimed at protecting residents, and transportation and economic initiatives intended to create new opportunities.
Taken together, these efforts reflect an ambition to move Enugu closer to its development potential.
As the general elections approach, the people of Enugu have reason to take pride in the development initiatives taking place across the state and to recognise Governor Peter Mbah’s commitment to building an Enugu that is better prepared for the future. His vision of bringing the Enugu of tomorrow into the present deserves consideration as the people assess his leadership and the direction of the state.
May the vision of a greater Enugu translate into enduring progress, shared prosperity and a legacy that future generations will have reason to appreciate, learn from and propagate.
Indeed, tomorrow is here!
