Kano NDC reveals why guber candidate is missing from INEC list

The Kano State chapter of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) has attributed the omission of its governorship candidate, Aminu Abdussalam-Gwarzo, from the final list of candidates for the 2027 election to an alleged computer glitch at the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).

The party urged its members and supporters to remain calm, assuring them that the matter was being addressed through consultations with the electoral commission.

The party’s Public Relations Officer, Yusif Fasaha, disclosed this in a statement made available to journalists in Kano following the publication of the final list on Saturday.

Fasaha maintained that the omission was not caused by any failure on the part of the NDC, insisting that the party had fulfilled all requirements and completed the necessary processes within the stipulated timeframe.

According to him, INEC officials had informed the party that the omission resulted from a computer-related problem and assured its representatives that the error would be corrected.

“I want to assure you that, as the PRO of the party, the problem is not from us.

“We have consulted INEC, and they told us that the problem was from the computer and that they would rectify it.

“So, everybody should remain calm. Between now and Monday, another list containing his name will be released,” Fasaha said.

The spokesman reiterated that Abdussalam-Gwarzo had satisfied the requirements for participation in the governorship election, dismissing concerns that the omission resulted from incomplete documentation or failure to comply with electoral procedures.

He explained that the party had carefully reviewed the published list and would sustain consultations with the relevant authorities until the issue was resolved.

The development followed INEC’s release of a final list containing 17 governorship candidates and their running mates from different political parties.

The list included incumbent Kano State Governor Abba Yusuf as the governorship candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC), with Murtala Sule-Garo named as his running mate.

However, Abdussalam-Gwarzo’s name was absent from the published list, prompting concerns among NDC members and supporters over the party’s participation in the governorship contest.

While the NDC maintains that the omission was a technical error, the party’s explanation has yet to be independently confirmed through an official statement from INEC.

The party expressed confidence that the commission would rectify the alleged error and publish an updated list containing its candidate’s name.
