Enugu — Chief Emma Okenwa, former Deputy Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Enugu State, has returned to the All Progressives Congress (APC), citing what he described as the development achievements of Gov. Peter Mbah’s administration in the state.
Okenwa made the announcement at his country home in Amechi Awkunanaw, Enugu South Local Government Area, where he was formally received by the APC Deputy National Chairman, South, Dr Ben Nwoye.
Nwoye presented Okenwa with the APC broom symbol on behalf of the party’s national leadership and described his return as an important addition to the party.
Nwoye said: “Chief Emma Okenwa is a political figure that has been part of the political process in Enugu State for a long time, and we welcome him back to the APC.”
He said the return was significant because Okenwa had previously participated actively in the party’s activities and had relationships with political actors across the state.
Former President of the Senate, Chief Ken Nnamani, said Okenwa was a strong grassroots politician with an “organic fellowship” among the people.
“He has a lot of followers. He is a strong grassroots politician,” Nnamani said.
Enugu State Coordinator of Renewed Hope Ambassadors, Hon. U.S.A. Igwesi, said Okenwa’s return would bring additional experience, relationships and grassroots support to the APC.
Okenwa, a former Chairman of Enugu South Local Government Area, had joined the APC in 2021 after leaving the PDP but later exited the party amid internal disagreements.
His latest return attracted APC leaders, women, political associates and supporters to his Amechi Awkunanaw country home.
