President Bola Tinubu has signed the Appropriation (Amendment) (No. 4) Bill, 2025 into law, extending the implementation deadline of the 2025 budget from September 30 to December 31, 2026.
The Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, disclosed this in a statement on Wednesday.
He said the President assented to the amendment a day after the National Assembly passed the bill, with the Senate and House of Representatives approving it on Tuesday.
According to Onanuga, the extension will enable Ministries, Departments and Agencies to complete ongoing capital projects and ensure that appropriated funds are fully utilised without affecting key government programmes.
The extension effectively gives government agencies an additional three months to implement projects and programmes covered by the 2025 Appropriation Act.
The President also commended the leadership and members of the National Assembly for the quick passage of the bill.
Tinubu described the action as a reflection of Executive-Legislature cooperation in the interest of the nation.
The amendment is the fourth to the 2025 Appropriation Act and extends its implementation window to December 31, 2026.
