Kano State Governor, Abba Kabir Yusuf, has brokered a reconciliation between Deputy President of the Senate, Senator Barau I. Jibrin, and Chairman, House Committee on Appropriations, Abubakar Kabir Bichi, following their political differences ahead of the 2027 general elections.

The reconciliation meeting, facilitated by Yusuf, was held in Abuja in the early hours of Wednesday and lasted about two hours, according to a statement by the Director-General, Media and Publicity, Government House, Kano, Sunusi Bature Dawakin Tofa.

The meeting provided an opportunity for the two All Progressives Congress leaders to address their differences and discuss working together in the interest of the party ahead of the elections.

Yusuf urged Barau, Bichi and their supporters to put aside their grievances, stressing that APC’s success required unity, mutual understanding and collective commitment among its leaders and members.

He also called on them to work together for the success of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, the Kano State Government and other APC candidates, while urging party members to place the collective interest of the APC above individual differences.

“Political disagreements are part of democratic engagement, but such differences should not be allowed to undermine the unity, stability and progress of the party,” Yusuf was quoted as saying.

The governor said the APC remained one family and urged its stakeholders to resolve internal disputes through dialogue, consultation and mutual respect.

He also appealed to supporters of the two leaders to avoid inflammatory statements, character assassination and other actions capable of deepening divisions within the party.

“Henceforth, I do not expect any of your supporters to come out and abuse one another. We must put a stop to this unnecessary distraction,” Yusuf said.

He expressed confidence that the reconciliation would strengthen unity among APC leaders and supporters in Kano and improve the party’s preparations for the 2027 elections.

The statement said the reconciliation had received the endorsement of President Tinubu, while Yusuf assured the President, APC national leadership and other stakeholders of the party’s commitment to working collectively ahead of the elections.

Yusuf was also quoted as saying: “The APC is set to win all elective positions in Kano come 2027 by God’s Grace.”

In their separate responses after the meeting, Barau and Bichi cautioned their supporters against actions capable of fuelling further disagreements within the party.

The two lawmakers reaffirmed their support, loyalty and commitment to the APC and thanked Yusuf for intervening to facilitate the truce and reconciliation.
