Enugu Govt Urges Residents to Use Emergency Line

The Enugu State Government has urged residents to make greater use of the 112 toll-free emergency line to access security services and obtain rapid assistance anywhere in the state.

The Senior Special Assistant to the Governor on Security, Mr Vincent Onyeabor, made the call on Monday during an ongoing journalists’ tour of projects executed by the administration of Governor Peter Mbah, including facilities at the Enugu State Command-and-Control Centre.

Onyeabor said the state had adopted and domiciled the national 112 emergency number as an official channel for reporting security emergencies and distress situations.

He explained that a dedicated workstation at the Command-and-Control Centre was responsible for receiving 112 calls around the clock, with personnel working in shifts to ensure that complaints were promptly received and escalated to the appropriate authorities.

According to him, the system enables the state to respond to emergencies by deploying its technology and security infrastructure.

“The 112 toll-free line section can trigger action in terms of security emergency situations.

“The section will escalate the information received to the Command-and-Control Centre, Enugu, to use the state-wide fibre cameras to trace the security or crime situation.

“The section can escalate the same information or message to the nearest Distress Response Squad (DRS) vehicle to take action.”

Onyeabor urged residents to take advantage of the service, stressing that the government wants members of the public to continue reporting emergencies through the platform.

“Our people should take advantage of the 112 Toll Free Line as we want the calls to keep coming,” he said.

He also listed 09134666668 and 09134448093 as additional numbers available through the state’s Command-and-Control Centre.

The numbers are consistent with emergency contacts previously published by the Enugu State Police Command for the state Command-and-Control Centre.

Onyeabor further said the state had recorded an 80 per cent reduction in crime, which he attributed to the deployment of technology and enhanced security infrastructure across the state.

He listed the fibre-enabled surveillance cameras, Command-and-Control Centre, 112 toll-free emergency service, drone systems and mobile statewide Distress Response Squad among the measures deployed by the state government.

The Senior Special Assistant said the integrated system had strengthened the ability of security personnel to receive information, monitor incidents and deploy response teams to areas requiring urgent intervention.
