The Enugu State Police Command has arrested a 23-year-old man, identified as Nnaji Chidiebere, after he was allegedly electrocuted while vandalising a transformer along Ogbaike Road, Obollo-Afor, in Udenu Local Government Area of the state.
The Command’s Public Relations Officer, SP Daniel Ndukwe, disclosed this in a statement issued on Tuesday, August 18, 2026, saying the suspect was found unconscious with various degrees of burns after reportedly being trapped inside the transformer at about 2:20 p.m. on August 17.
Ndukwe said the suspect’s arrest followed credible information from members of the community, adding that operatives of the Udenu Police Division promptly mobilised to the scene after receiving the information.
He said the police found Chidiebere unconscious and immediately evacuated him to a nearby hospital, where he was resuscitated before being referred to a specialist hospital for further treatment.
According to the statement, “Upon regaining consciousness, the suspect identified himself as Nnaji Chidiebere and stated that he had been alone at the scene.”
Ndukwe, however, said preliminary investigation had linked the suspect to transformer vandalism in the area, adding that further investigation was ongoing to establish the full extent of his activities, identify possible accomplices and facilitate his prosecution.
Reacting to the development, the Commissioner of Police, Enugu State Command, CP Mamman Giwa, commended the residents of the Obollo-Afor community for their vigilance and timely reporting.
CP Giwa reiterated the Command’s firm resolve to safeguard critical public infrastructure and essential services across the state.
He urged citizens to remain law-abiding and maintain consistent partnership with security agencies by providing actionable intelligence on suspicious activities in their neighborhoods.
