Anambra Pastor Faces Criminal Charges, Appears in Court in Wheelchair

The General Overseer of Dayspring Assembly, Awada, Obosi, Pastor Harrison Anazodo, on Monday appeared before the Anambra State High Court sitting in Awka in a wheelchair as the hearing of his bail application was adjourned.

Anazodo, who was brought to court from the Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu University Teaching Hospital, Awka, was arraigned before Justice Jude Obiora on a seven-count charge filed by the Anambra State Government.

The charges relate to the alleged propagation of the accumulation of wealth through supernatural means, an offence reportedly proscribed under the Anambra State Homeland Security Law, 2025.

He is also facing allegations bordering on murder, abduction and the unlawful separation and isolation of individuals from their families and keeping them at his residence.

The prosecution said the alleged offences were committed between 2000 and 2025.

Anazodo pleaded not guilty to all seven counts, following which his counsel, W.O. Abonyi, moved an application for his bail.

However, the prosecution counsel, C.V. Ononye, opposed the application, arguing that the prosecution had not been adequately notified and had not been given sufficient time to respond.

The court, while taking into consideration the defendant’s health condition, reportedly noted that he had spent about three weeks in the Intensive Care Unit of the Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu University Teaching Hospital.

Justice Obiora consequently ordered that Anazodo be returned to the hospital and adjourned the matter until October 12, 2026, for hearing of the bail application and further proceedings.

Anazodo was reportedly arrested by officials of the Anambra State Government on June 10, 2026.

Reports following his arrest said the state government was investigating allegations relating to activities at his church, in collaboration with the police.
