Enugu Govt To Improve Water, Power At NYSC Camp

The Enugu State Government has assured the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) of improved water and power supply at its orientation camp in Awgu.

The General Manager of the Enugu State Community and Social Development Agency (CSDA), Hon. Monday Diamond Ani, gave the assurance during a courtesy visit to the NYSC Enugu State Secretariat.

Ani said CSDA would work with NYSC management to improve the existing borehole by reticulating water for wider distribution across the camp and strengthen the solar power system serving the facility.

“The government objective is not merely to provide infrastructure but to ensure that such interventions function effectively and deliver lasting benefits to the intended beneficiaries,” he said.

He said CSDA technical personnel would assess the existing solar panels, pumps and other facilities to determine the appropriate solar solution, adding that additional solar lighting would be considered for dark spots within the camp.

Earlier, the Head of the NYSC Enugu State Secretariat, Mrs Oluwakemi Awolola, commended the administration of Gov. Peter Mbah for its interventions at the camp.

“NYSC is grateful in particular for the provision of a borehole to address water needs of corps members, adequate statewide security in Enugu State, favourable infrastructure and serene environment for corps members and staff,” Awolola said.

Awolola said the camp, which was the first NYSC orientation camp in Nigeria, had experienced infrastructural challenges over the years, adding that the water and lighting projects would help create a more conducive environment for corps members.

She, however, noted that the existing boreholes had not fully addressed the camp’s water needs because of the growing number of corps members mobilised to the facility, making additional infrastructure necessary.
