ABUJA — The Federal Capital Territory Police Command says it has arrested about 300 persons for screening during a massive raid on identified crime flashpoints, shanties and uncompleted buildings across the FCT.
The operation was conducted on Saturday, September 19, 2026, across various locations in the Territory as part of efforts to prevent crime, disrupt criminal activities and enhance the safety and security of residents.
According to a statement issued by the FCT Police Public Relations Officer, SP Josephine Adeh, the operation targeted identified criminal hideouts and led to the recovery of knives, a toy gun, cannabis and other illicit drugs.
Adeh said the suspects were undergoing thorough screening and profiling, adding that those found to have committed offences would be charged to court in accordance with the law, while persons found to have no case to answer would be released after due screening.
The Commissioner of Police, FCT Command, CP Ahmed Sanusi, said the command would continue to sustain intelligence-led raids and proactive policing operations across the Territory, particularly at locations identified as potential hideouts for criminals.
Sanusi cautioned youths and other residents against the use and abuse of illicit drugs, saying substance abuse could impair judgment, fuel violent and criminal behaviour, and expose individuals and communities to serious security risks.
He urged anyone struggling with drug use to seek appropriate counselling and rehabilitation support rather than allowing substance abuse to lead them into criminal activities.
The CP also directed police officers participating in the operations to conduct themselves professionally and strictly in accordance with the law. He warned officers against using raids or arrests as avenues for extortion, intimidation, harassment or unlawful demands for money.
Sanusi said any officer found engaging in such misconduct would face appropriate disciplinary action.
The FCT Police Command reaffirmed its commitment to protecting lives and property and urged residents to continue providing credible and timely information on suspicious activities and criminal hideouts within their communities.
The command advised members of the public requiring emergency assistance or wishing to provide useful security information to contact the FCT Police Command through 08032003913.
