FirstPower Electricity Distribution Company Limited has commenced its maiden Customer Service Week with a call on staff to make better service delivery a priority.
The week-long programme, which began on Monday at the company’s headquarters in Awka, Anambra State, is themed “The Extra Mile.”Declaring the event open, the Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of FirstPower, Engr. Okechukwu Okafor, said the celebration was an opportunity for staff to reflect on their responsibility to customers and the communities served by the company.
Okafor described customers as the heartbeat of the business and urged employees to discharge their duties with honesty, transparency and dedication. He also called on customers to cooperate with the company in protecting electricity infrastructure and warned against bribing personnel. He urged consumers to report extortion, energy theft, meter tampering and vandalism through the company’s established channels.
The Head of Customer Service, Mrs Uju Okafor, said customer service should not be left to one department, urging every employee to take ownership of customer complaints and seek practical solutions. She said going the “extra mile” should involve listening to customers, communicating honestly, following up on complaints and working with other departments to resolve problems.
The event featured goodwill messages, a staff playlet, remarks by members of the management team and the cutting of the Customer Service Week cake. The programme will continue with customer appreciation activities, visits to selected customers, safety drills, school safety talks and other engagements.
The company said it intends to make “The Extra Mile” a daily approach to customer relations rather than a slogan limited to the celebration.
