Abia State Governor, Dr. Alex Otti, with the new Assistant Inspector-General of Police, Zone 9, AIG Nwonyi Polycarp Emeka, during a courtesy visit at the Government House, Umuahia.

He said government would examine the logistical and infrastructural challenges at the Zone 9 headquarters, particularly operational vehicles, power supply and other facilities.

“We will continue to support you. We will continue to make the environment more friendly for you to operate,” Otti said.

The governor said the state would evaluate the condition of police vehicles and consider providing new ones or supporting comprehensive repairs and replacement.

He also promised a solar power solution for the zonal headquarters, while assuring that other concerns raised by the AIG would be considered.

“We have heard about the logistic challenges at the Zone 9 Headquarters, especially the vehicles. Sometimes, you call for service and you cannot rely on the vehicle because of its condition. We will look at it. We need to evaluate these things properly and see what we can do to support you,” Otti said.

The governor said the administration appreciated the sacrifices of security personnel in protecting lives and property and would continue to work with security agencies to create conditions conducive to effective operations.

Earlier, AIG Nwonyi Polycarp Emeka said he visited to formally introduce himself to the governor following his redeployment to Zone 9.

He identified unserviceable operational vehicles, the absence of a functional 150KVA generator for uninterrupted power supply and the need for solar lighting at the headquarters as some of the challenges confronting the zone.

The AIG appealed for state government support, noting that improved logistics and facilities would enhance police effectiveness and personnel welfare.

He described security as a collective responsibility requiring cooperation among government, security agencies and other stakeholders.

Nwonyi assured that the police under his leadership would maintain professionalism, discipline and adherence to the rule of law, with emphasis on crime prevention, protection of lives and property, prompt response to security incidents and improved crime detection.

The meeting was attended by operational commanders and senior police officers.
