The Enugu State Government has clarified that it plans to dispose of only unserviceable assets located at selected government facilities, and not the facilities or institutions themselves.
The Commissioner for Finance and Economic Development, Dr. Nathaniel Urama, made the clarification in a statement issued in Enugu on Wednesday, August 27, 2026, following reports circulating on social media alleging that the state government was selling assets belonging to the Enugu State Broadcasting Service (ESBS), Enugu State Water Corporation, Nnamdi Azikiwe Stadium and the state’s Liaison Office in Lagos.
Urama said the report was false and misleading, stressing that the publication did not emanate from either the Enugu State Government or the Ministry of Finance and Economic Development.
He explained that the government’s intended notice, which had not been published as of Wednesday, concerns certain assets at the affected locations that had become unserviceable and were no longer useful to the state.
“The information is erroneous and it is neither from Enugu State Government nor the State Ministry of Finance. We, therefore, advise the general public to please ignore the message circulating in the media,” Urama said.
The commissioner explained that the disposal, when formally commenced, would be undertaken in accordance with extant laws and due process, adding that prospective bidders would be required to obtain details of the affected assets from the Ministry of Finance and submit their bids through the prescribed procedure.
The clarification followed a notice published on Wednesday by the Ministry of Finance and Economic Development inviting prospective bidders to participate in the disposal of selected assets reportedly located at the Enugu State Water Corporation, ESBS, Nnamdi Azikiwe Stadium and the state’s Liaison Office in Lagos.
According to the published notice, bids were to be submitted in sealed envelopes marked “Bid Document” and addressed to the Commissioner for Finance and Economic Development at the Old Eastern House of Assembly Complex, GRA, Enugu, with public opening scheduled for 10 a.m. on Friday, August 28, at the ministry’s conference room.
However, Urama stressed that the notice should not be interpreted as an attempt by the state government to sell the institutions or government facilities named in the report.
He urged members of the public and media organisations to verify information through official government channels before publishing or sharing reports concerning government activities.
Urama warned against the spread of false information and deliberate misrepresentation, assuring that any official notice concerning the disposal of the unserviceable assets would be properly published through the appropriate channels.
